Healthcare Affordability
Emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare costs have continued to increase at a rate higher than inflation. In response, state legislators and regulators are being more proactive than ever to drive interventions that attempt to lower costs for consumers while retaining high quality care. While the cost of prescription drugs will continue to garner much of the attention, MultiState is tracking and analyzing the issues that go beyond the headlines and stand to have just as significant an impact to stakeholders across the healthcare delivery environment.
In 2024, more than 20 states enacted legislation that addresses healthcare affordability beyond prescription drug costs. At MultiState, we’re actively tracking and analyzing hundreds of bills impacting key levers of affordability that state lawmakers and regulators are using, including: Certificate of Need reform, enhanced oversight and transparency of provider facility fees, continued efforts to address surprise billing, and enhanced transparency for consumers on the billing and costs for healthcare services.
